Nasolabial folds, commonly known as “smile lines” or “laugh lines,” are the creases that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. These lines are a natural feature of the face but can become more prominent with age due to factors like:
1. Loss of skin elasticity
As collagen and elastin production decrease, the skin loses its ability to bounce back, deepening the folds.
2. Volume loss
Fat and muscle tissue in the mid-face can diminish over time, leading to sagging skin that accentuates these lines.
3. Repetitive facial movements
Smiling or other repetitive expressions can etch these lines deeper into the skin.
